Hi there everyone, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and to thank you all for being such a great group of swappers.
Since the announcement that I would only be accepting new members from Australia from 1st January 2015 (sent out with the 2015 Roll Call); several people have expressed their disappointment at the prospect of eventually losing the international aspect of the swap.
So, I am reviewing the situation ………. and would like to offer an alternative option to Australian members; the option to post ‘within Australia only’. This would mean that the group will remain an international swap group, as originally created. If any Australian swappers wish to take up this option, please let me know via email. Unfortunately, the membership is not strong enough yet to have a USA only option.
The end of the 2014 sees some of our longstanding members leaving – life, health issues & work are some of the reasons given.
We had 23 new swappers join us during the course of 2014 and I am so very pleased to advise that, according to my records, there were only 3 one-sided swaps throughout the whole year! These swaps have since been completed by Christmas Angels (with 1 angel block in the mail as you read this) and I must say a huge thank you to everyone for making this year a bumper year of successful swaps. We even had 100% completion on the Halloween Block Swap – doing a happy dance!
There are, however, a few issues that continuously get raised – fabric & block size, and communication – or rather lack of communication.
Fabric & Block size – please consider your partner's preferences when choosing fabrics, and please check your seam allowances – if a block ends up too small, it makes it very difficult and almost impossible to use.
Communication - whilst communication has improved with the Swap Co-Ordinator during 2014, there is still room for improvement in communicating with partners. So I will ask everyone to please make an effort to let your partner know when you send your block and that their block has arrived. The postal services seem to be taking an awfully long time to deliver our packages and it is nice to know that it has arrived safely.
I cannot stress enough how important regular communication is. Given modern technology that is available to us, it is now easier than ever to keep in touch :) Don’t forget, we have the Blog and the Facebook Group as well. The most important communications are done via email. Members who do not respond to emails from the Swap Co-Ordinator for 30 days or more (especially when specifically asked to do so) will be removed from the Active list.
Speaking of Facebook – I would like to remind everyone that the Facebook PAGE is a public page, and absolutely everyone on Facebook can see it, as well as all the posts/comments you make. The Facebook GROUP is a private group, and only the members of the swap group can see the various posts, comments & photos. So please keep this in mind when using Facebook.
Our membership going into 2015 is 21 Swappers – our capacity is 30, so we have a few vacancies for the first time in a long time. Interestingly, our Country breakdown is:
1 New Zealand
For those members who are not continuing to 2015; as advised when you joined, your details will be removed from the group email list. However, if you wish to stop receiving the newsletter, you will need to unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of the newsletter.
For those members who advise they have sent their December block, January partners will be issued via email around the end of December some time …. I tend to lose track of the days over the Festive Season, so it may be late LOL
Here’s hoping 2015 is going to be a great year for all of us.
