We are on a roll! Welcome new swappers and a new Facebook page

POST UPDATED:  28th September 2012

Please join me in welcoming:

Michele, from NSW, Australia
Melanie, from SA, Australia
Traci, from North Carolina, USA
Michell, from Gisborne, NZ
Cathy, from NSW, Australia

to our Christmas Quilting Block Swap group. Michele, Melanie, Traci, Michell and Cathy have joined in time for the October Swap.

Since we already have a Michele in the group and to save confusion, Michele will be identified with a K on the end - MicheleK and Michell (two LL's) will be MichellK  ;-)

Since we already have three Cathy's in the group, this new Cathy will be known as CathyD

Links to our Active Members' blogs and/or online photo galleries have been added to the sidebar – please take a moment to go visit them and spread some Christmas Swap Love ;-)

Also, please note we now have a Facebook page ;-) please see link on the sidebar.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me!

Christmas Quilting Block Swap Co-Ordinator

Three Strikes ..... and you're out!

Effective 1st October 2012
With the unfortunate occurrences of One Sided Swaps with swappers not communicating AND not swapping, a Three Strikes Rule has been instigated – failure to swap and/or communicate with another swap member in any month will result in a Strike – collect Three Strikes …. and you’re out! These strikes will be communicated to the offending member via e-mail.

Repeated failure to swap and/or communicate is simply NOT ACCEPTABLE. If you are having genuine difficulties, or are travelling, or just want a bit of a break you can request to be placed On Leave for a short while. As long as you communicate with your partner and the Swap Co-Ordinator then the Strike will not apply – very simple!

Swappers who do not receive any communication or their swap item are requested to let the Swap Co-Ordinator know by the end of the month. To those swappers who feel that they are ‘dobbing in’ or ‘telling tales’ – you are not! How would you feel if you did not receive your item, only to find out that the person before you, or even the person before them, did not receive their swap item either? This could have been avoided if only the first non-receiving swapper had let me know earlier.

The Christmas Quilting Block Swap Group will only be as good as the individual members make it ……..let’s make it a good one!

Mary's Mail

Mary's block hasn't reached Canada yet so I can't show it to you.  Don't you just hate to spoil a surprise?  As soon as she has it, I'll post the picture.

PA bound...

On it's way to Jen in PA...

Up-Date added...I received a e-mail from Jen this evening & yes the block arrived & it will work well with her others! She thanked me & we are both pleased with our September Swap! Blessings~Lori

Wew! Made it on the last mail date for September block's!
I had e-mailed my September partners and let them know that I
was going on vacation-holiday & I'd run later than I normally do.
I so appreciate the understanding I received :) Thanks Ladies!
Jen & I both had picked the "log-cabin block" & both in
traditional colors. Easy peasy eh! So this is the block I've sent to her...

The log cabin is the first block I ever learned to sew years ago  & I still find it my favorite to make :)

This is the Log-Cabin I received from Jen...

It's lovely & has beautiful fabrics~ I thank you so much Jen!
Blessings ~

Roll Call & Feedback Results

The Christmas Block Swap Roll Call & Feedback has produced some great results.

Most of you are happy with the way the Swap is run and are happy to continue.

A few members have chosen this point in time to leave the group due to other commitments.

Members saying goodbye and/or taking leave for a short while are:

Farewell to you all, for now anyway ;-)  Here’s hoping some of you are able to return in the New Year ….. you are all welcome back when you feel you are able.

Don't forget, if you haven't replied to the initial Roll Call and Feedback request by 30th September, it will be assumed that you no longer wish to be part of our swap and you will be removed from the group.

Now onto the results of the Feedback/Suggestions.

Generally speaking, swappers are happy ……. BUT, yes, you knew there would be a BUT!

Of course, the biggest disappointment was receiving NO BLOCK at all – not happy Jan!

The negative that was brought up the most was COMMUNICATION …….. or rather the LACK OF COMMUNICATION – most swappers were OK with blocks being late AS LONG AS there had been some form of communication letting them know ;-)   So please, please …… remember your manners and communicate with your partner!

The next point of contention was size and/or quality of blocks made.  Whilst we all realise that we are all participating with different skill levels, it was noted that blocks that are not the correct size or poorly made, were the source of the most disappointment.   We can all do ourselves a very big favour by double checking our seam allowances and accuracy of cutting.  The issue of block quality has been brought up in the past.  If the block your partner has requested is a little outside your skill level, don’t be afraid to let you partner know, I am sure an alternative block choice can be offered.  Whilst I understand the desire to learn new skills, can I suggest we make a test block for ourselves first when trying a new difficult block?

That’s the negatives, now for the positives ;-)

Most swappers are enjoying the swaps very much and love making new friends along the way.

The Special Swaps, like the Mug Rug Swaps, have proved popular and very well received.  I am most pleased to confirm that we had 100% participation in the 2012 Mug Rug swap – ALL swaps were sent and received within the timeframe (well, OK, one or two slipped into August  J ).

Suggestions have been received for future swaps – different items like hot pads, oven mits, mini quilts, table runners, pin cushions, even a ‘seasonal’ swap – e.g. Valentines, Easter, Mother’s Day, Halloween, etc.  These are great suggestions and will be looked at during the next 12 months.  Stay tuned!

As a result of feedback a Facebook page has been created.   Hopefully, this will help with the communication aspect of the group.  Our Facebook page can be found here

OK, so that’s it from me for now.

This group will only be as good as the members make it, so let’s make it a good one ;-)

Cathy T's star

This is such a pretty pattern, and Cathy kindly sent that to me as well so I will certainly give it a try.  Thanks Cathy

Special Swap with Carol

During August I received a request via email from Carol of Carl Junction, MO, USA, who asked if I would be willing to do a one off swap. I said yes, and this beautiful block is what arrived.

I also received this beautiful pattern.

In return, I will be sending Carol a log cabin block in Christmas fabrics.
I did make up a block, but was not happy with it, so will be popping a better one in the post shortly.

Carol has made a request to see if other quilters may be willing to swap some Log Cabin blocks for her Christmas Star blocks.  If you would like to swap with Carol, let me know via email and I will pass on her email details.

Roll Call and Feedback Opportunity

Hi everyone

October 2012 will see our 2nd Birthday and I thought this might be a great opportunity to take a roll call to see who would like to continue being part of our Christmas Block Swap Group.

I would also like to give everyone an opportunity to provide feedback – both positive and negative – on how the group is run. It would be really nice to know if you feel some aspects could be improved, and of course, if we are doing something right, then it is always nice to know that too ;-)

Could the partner allocation email be improved?
Can the blog be improved?
Would you like more 'special swaps' - like the Christmas in July Mug Rug Swap?
What do you enjoy most (or least) about the swaps?

Here is your opportunity to do both!
An email has been sent out to ALL members of this swap group. Please reply to this email:
  1. to let me know that you wish to continue swapping
  2. to give me some form of feedback – either positive or negative ;-)
If I don’t receive any reply from you by 30th September 2012, it shall be assumed that you no longer wish to be part of the Christmas Block Swap group and your name and details will be removed. This DOES NOT apply to those members who have just recently joined, or have already communicated with me that they wish to remain on leave until 2013.

Comments on this post have been disabled - reply MUST be via e-mail.
